“What we offer is quality,” says Greg Di Bucci, who acts as Managing Director for the company. “When you get a house built by us, you get a home that is without flaws. You get a home that will be finished immaculately: everything will be put together right, and there will be no stone left unturned to make sure that it’s the best it can be.”

The origins of A. Di Bucci & Son date back to 1960, when Amico “Mick” Di Bucci moved from Italy to Australia and embarked on a building career. He started off working as a tiler, concreter, and “anything else, really,” Greg recalls. “That’s how it was in Italy in those days – they used to be jacks of all trades.”

In 1964, Mick moved into working with another building company, supervising small houses and additions. He built his first house on his own in 1969, making it his family home. He liked the experience, so he went on to become registered and formed his own company. In 1978, his son Greg officially joined the family business and A. Di Bucci & Son was born.


Today, A. Di Bucci & Son operates mainly in the higher-end, prestige-home market. Greg estimates that their prices range from $700,000 all the way to $6 million, with an average value of $2 million.

“We don’t do a lot of advertising,” Greg says. “Most of our work comes from clients who have built with us before, and come back when they’ve done well in their field and want to upgrade.”

Greg credits that customer loyalty to the two key offerings of any building company – quality and service. At A. Di Bucci & Son, he says both offerings are unrivalled.

“We’re available 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” Greg explains, describing their service. “Clients can ring us weekends, nights – it doesn’t make any difference to us, our phones are on all the time. They know that if they wake up after dreaming of something, they can pick up the phone and give us a call and that’s okay. It’s our business, it’s our life, and it’s what we do.

Then, when it comes to quality, Greg credits the company’s success to the expert team they have built up over the years. “We’ve developed a good group of guys who stick with us,” he says. “Our subcontractors are very loyal, and they do a fantastic job.”

A Di Bucci & Son fosters extremely strong relationships at every level of their business. When it comes to their subcontractors, A. Di Bucci & Son have been working with the same guys for decades – some of their relationships even span generations, as some subcontractors have passed on their business to their children.

In the case of customers, the relationships are just as long lasting – almost all of the company’s business comes from people who have built with them before, or who have referred their friends and family to them.

“It’s all about being up front,” Greg says. “If the client’s not doing something right, we tell them, and vice versa. At the end of the day, it’s all about getting to the same high quality result. We’re all striving for the same thing, and we can achieve it if we stick together.”

It is also important to A. Di Bucci & Son that their subcontractors form positive relationships with clients. “We don’t want anyone out there that upsets our clients in any way shape or form,” Greg explains. “They have to understand that the client is number one. We wouldn’t be there and they wouldn’t have a job if it wasn’t for the client.”
